January 14:2002 IC Midwinters - A Formula for Success The 2002 InterClub Midwinters is shaping up to be another classic regatta. Despite the early IC Nationals in December, the Miami Olympic Classes Regatta, and other scheduling conflicts, we're on tap for a 25 to 30 boat turnout. That's pretty good considering the circumstances, and also considering that there are two teams of sailors in each boat. Some former IC Midwinters (and IC Nationals) champions will attend, including Jim Bowers (Winthrop, MA) and Tim Healy (Newport, RI). These guys are great, but they should look out for two rising stars in the Annapolis Fleet - Hal Gilreath and Wayne Pignolet. Another team certain to contend is Chad Demarest and Steve Kirkpatrick from Scituate, MA. The IC Midwinters is a regatta that everyone enjoys because it's a social event every bit as much as it is a sailing event. Once again, the off-racing teams will be treated to Annapolis IC Fleet hospitality with homemade hot soup and chili. Phillips Seafood will also be providing soup. We will have a terrific BBQ dinner Saturday evening, and plenty of premium keg beer. We also will have a FREE raffle with lots of great prizes, all for one low entry fee. The IC Midwinters formula wouldn't be complete without our stalwart RC staff which includes PRO John Potter (IC Midwinters PRO in 98,2000, & 2001 and PRO for the 1999 IC Nationals). John knows IC sailing, so trust that the courses will be perfect, and starts will be expedient. Assisting John are many of our frostbiting friends from the local Laser Fleet who always seem to come through for us. We haven't missed a day of championship sailing in Annapolis since 1996. It's got to blow pretty hard to blow us out down here! It's all in our formula for the perfect frostbite regatta! A Great Regatta = Good Management + Great Location + Fun Atmosphere
December 17: The regatta Notice of Race is now posted.
