February 5:Set To Go
We have 23 boats paid registration with an anticipated 8 more entries the day of the show. This will be the largest IC midwinters in the last 8 years. The beer and dinner are ordered, we have 25 gallons of hot beverages including 8 gallons of crab bisque donated by Phillips seafood! The National Weather service has the following forecast: SAT-NW WINDS 15 TO 20 KT BECOMING SW 10 TO 15 KT., SUN-SW WINDS 10 TO 15 KT. These conditions will provide great sailing! Check the latest here (CHESAPEAKE BAY FROM SANDY POINT TO NORTH BEACH).January 23:Entries Pouring In
The entries are pouring in and it is shaping up to be one of the largest Midwinters turnouts in the past 6 years. In fact we have loaned out all the available loaner boats via the "Annapolis InterClub Boat Loan Program". If you are on the fence due to the weather, don't despair as having all this cold weather before the event is good, because this ar south, a cold snap like we're having will not last more than a week or two, so by the time of the event, we'll be back to uper 30's and low 40's, our normal temps. Also, despite the cold temperatures, we have not had any ice in Spa Creek. Last weekend we sailed in 12-18 from the NW with temperatures about 30 degrees for about 2 hours and it was not bad. This is significantly more than each division would sail in the Midwinters; that's a worst case, so no doubt the Midwinters will be more pleasant. We thought it important to say that we will not cancel the regatta due to bad weather. Since 1996, not one day of IC Midwinters sailing in Annapolis has been cancelled. Therefore, it is the policy of the Annapolis Interclub Fleet not to grant registration refunds unless there are extenuating circumstances that we deem reasonable. All refund requests relating to inclement weather will be considered on a case by case basis. In the case of teams who are loaned fleet boats, we will not refund your money unless a replacement team is found and they pay in full. January 2:2002 IC Midwinters - A Formula for Success
"The InterClub Midwinters has built quite a reputation for itself. That reputation is one of great sailing and socializing in equal proportions made possible by the regatta format, called "collegiate style". Each boat is shared among sailors from two divisions who form a team for scoring purposes - just like in college sailing. First one division sails a few races, then the other. Alternating between racing and socializing is even tempting for those sailors that normally consider frostbiting as part of the lunatic fringe. As one new frostbiter described, 'I thought I'd get pretty cold out there, but I was pleasantly surprised that these little tubs keep you moving, and before you know it, your round is over and you're back in the club eating soup!'" How much better can you state the essence of this regatta? This year's event is stacking up to carry on this tradition. As we have bragged about in the past, we have not lost a midwinter's race due to bad weather in the last 5 years. You are virtually guaranteed two days of great sailing, and with the borrowed boat program (see the NOR), and air fares reaching rock bottom, you can now get here with a minimum of fuss.
